Fall Decorating

Happy Morning All!

I did it! This post is updated from it's original date, back in August.  I completed my Fall Decorating Challenge, see the updates below.

We are in full swing with cool mornings, some leaves changing and shorter days here in Colorado.  

So, I've decided to challenge myself to decorate  for Fall this week.  I'm learning things take longer to do now, and if I wish to add new pieces to my fall Decorations, I should start sooner.  These new pieces are handmade, creative, and yummy.  I'm finding inspiration from my Autumn Pinterest  board.

I'm sharing three with you today hoping to inspire you, and to also hold me accountable for bringing them to life.

So Pinterest, a wonderful place that supports and promotes the hoarding of household items like pickle jars, cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls.  So, it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm now collecting Empty Milk Containers for one of my Fall Projects.

I found this last year and COULDN'T wait to make it...time played against me, as it always seems to do, so I wasn't blessed with the time to bring it to life.  But, I was certain I would next year, and here we are already.

I've printables everywhere and have yet to print one but this one, it's going to have a space in my home, maybe even the porch. I plan to visit the Goodwill for an old frame 

to then re-do for Fall.

I made this for a Football get together. It was a hit!  Savory and sweet...I'll be making it again.

Fall Decorating {Candy Corn Project}

If you've been here for a while, thanks for following, and if you're new let me share that Fall is my favorite time of year!  And while my initial decorating is complete, I'm still adding handmade touches.  I so enjoyed making and hanging my Fall Bunting, in our Family room. 

On that note, I've added something else.  I purchased a few weeks back a small wooden frame from our local Goodwill with the intent to use it for some form of decorating.  And being a lover of buttons, I realized I need to use both together.  Then creative juices got me to thinking I needed to incorporate remnants of Burlap from my sewing studio. 

Here's the end result.

Fall Decorating - Burlap Bunting Garland

It's close, 20 days away from Fall being in full swing! September 22nd is the first day of Fall and while we have signs here already, that day makes it very official.  I'll have a Surprise Giveaway that day, so be sure to stay connected via any social media outlet; see you there. :)

   

Below is a project I wanted to create for a variety of reasons. I've been using Burlap in varies projects lately, and I have tons of scrap fabric I wish to cost effectively use, justify the purpose of hoarding keeping it.  (wink, wink)

Here's a tutorial for Burlap Bunting Garland 

with F.A.L.L. lettering.

I've also created one with the word "Handmade" to showcase in my craft booth (details on that in the coming weeks).

{Burlap Bunting Garland}

Sewing Skill: Beginner

Difficulty: Easy

Total Work Time: 45-1 hour (Nap time idle)

Here are the Supplies you'll need:

Burlap - 1/2 a yards worth

Scrap Fabric 

Stencil Letters

Cookie Cutter Shapes (optional)

Pen/Pencil

Scissors

Twine or Ribbon  (not photographed)

 Clear, Craft Glue (not photographed)

Sewing Machine or Glue gun

Step 1:

{Assemble Your Letters}

Measure out your Stencil Letters on the fabric scraps & coordinate.  Here the Letter L is used twice so I chose to use two different scraps.  Also consider how the letters will appear once cut, and placed.  It's best to spread out the beauty so, if you choose to use polka dots, for two of your letters, make sure they aren't side by side, unless the whole project is polka dots (the Handmade Sign, sharing soon, has every letter in polka dots; squeal - so darn cute).

I also incorporated two cookie cutters, as stencils, for extra detailing; a Pumpkin and a Leaf were used.  I then picked coordinating fabrics for those two pieces.  

Step 2:

{Cut Letters}

Once you've traced your letters, cut away.  In my case, I cut beyond your pen markings.  I wished for larger letters so in order to achieve that, I had to cut beyond the pen markings, like above.

Step 3:

{Cutting Burlap}

Depending on your finished letter size, place your letter on the Burlap and cut accordingly.  Do this for all pieces.

Step 4:

{Attaching Fabric Scraps}

If a sewing machine isn't handy, use a glue gun to attach your pieces.

Shown here is the Pumpkin cut-out, then stitched with a Zig Zag finish around the edges to attach it to the Burlap.  Repeat for all Letters. 

Step 5:

{Creating Garland}

I'm a big lover of Twine, so I always have it around the house.  I chose to use Twine to hang my Flags from.  

 *I turned my pieces wrong side up

* Lined them up accordingly

* Used Dabs of Clear Glue to adhere the 

twine to the back of the Burlap

* Then waited for it to dry.

I then picked backing Burlap thread and did a small zig zag stitch along all the Flags, from beginning to end, to attach all the pieces firmly. 

I used a 14 universal needle

All Purpose Camel Color Thread, both top and bottom

5 Width

3 Length

5 Tension

There you go, a fun, crafty project which will surely wow your guests through the Fall Season.  Get creative and do something for your porch, kitchen, or just about any room.

Decorating for Fall

Hi all...

Well, it's in the air here, Fall that is.  You can smell the cooler air and some are reporting a few trees in the Rockies have leaves slightly changing.

I'm writing this post today because I had a funny morning and wanted all of you to hear about it.

We are blessed to have our school within walking distance and that gives the kids and us moms time to catch up each morning (it's a real treat, I don't take for granted).  While collecting one of my sweets this morning, Gretchen, I was super excited to see her decorating for Fall!  Yes ladies (and Gents) she was decorating for Fall.  

Here's a glimpse into how our conversation went...which would be how I talk my sweet girlfriends!

Me: "What are you doing, is that an Autumn sign I see up?"

Gretchen:  "I'm so ready, so I'm decorating for Fall!"

Me: "Ya! (clapping enthusiastically), you've just given me the Green Light to decorate!"

Gretchen:  "Well, I'm also cleaning." As she passed by her Vacuum to collect her shoes because we need to get going.  

Me:  "Oh, let's not get crazy now...!" Waving one hand to dismiss that non-sense.

Me & Gretchen:  Both of us laughed out loud.

She's my silly friend, that laughs hard with me, has the same sense of humor, and we get each other.

So...as we exit Summer

and start thinking about Fall
